Summer School is a constellation of ideas, encounters and artistic knowledges, making space around Festival works for audiences and artists to linger with an idea. It begins with three key capacities that feel increasingly precious in our world today: depth, spaciousness, and agency, or the possibility of thinking deeply, slowly, and freely. Borrowing from neuroscientist Anne-Laure Le Cunff’s description of these as “cognitive luxuries”, Summer School positions artists to facilitate other rhythms of attentiveness and being, while providing structural support for the next generation of cultural leaders through Festival Commons.
