Holding Space: Socially Engaged Practices

Art doesn't always need an audience. Sometimes it needs accomplices.

From transforming public spaces into fantastical worlds to sending children's voices skyward on kites and turning wrecked cars into communal baths, Leeroy New (Future Fiestas), Holly Austin (Kite Choir) and Benjamin Paul (waynapuni pools) make art out of the simple, radical act of coming together.

In an age of fragmentation and isolation, this salon invites you into the worlds of artists who reimagine culture as a shared social act. Expect stories from the field, glimpses into facilitatory processes, and a little experimentation as we explore where collective responsibility begins and ends, and the delicate tension of holding space without claiming ownership in the messy business of making art together.
