Western Sydney Spotlight
No centre, no margins.
Western Sydney is more than a postcode, demographic or cultural diversity success story, it's a whole universe of contradictions and creative possibilities.
A site of invention, internationalism and artistic self-determination, often despite the system, Western Sydney has never been a region waiting to be discovered. Its artists have long made their own rules and forged connections that reach well beyond the city's imagined centre.
Bringing together the intimate worlds of Wasielah Noorsjamsi (Silah), the queer sonic imagination of Marcus Whale (Atopia) and the fantastical public interventions of Filipino artist Leeroy New (Future Fiestas), this salon celebrates the artistic energies that emerge from, move through and connect with Western Sydney.
Pull up a chair with host JD Reforma (Curator, Parramatta Artists Studios) and get under the skin of the stories and spirited disagreements that entangle people and place. This is a chance to get up close and personal with a region that refuses to be reduced to a single story.
Speakers:
- Wasielah Noorsjamsi
