A Loved Woman
(Australia)
A queer icon – and her mum – bare all.
Queer performance icon Emma Maye Gibson (aka Betty Grumble) is known for many things: anarchic performance art, powerful politics, riotous stripping, vulva prints, orgasmic ritual and (fake) onstage shits. But now, she’s exposing more than she ever has before – her complicated relationship with her mother.
The (in)famous sex clown is feted around the world for her explicit and fearless burlesque and cabaret performance art, but what does her former bodybuilding and aerobics champion mother make of all the mess and fury?
From teenage runaways to smashed dinner plates and leotards stretched over bruises, Emma Maye and her mum Karmyn rip the clothes off their chequered history and ask what passes between mothers and daughters, and can they find a way to forgive?
Stick around for a post-show talk following the 1pm show on 9 January.
