Srey’s Refuge, Home at Last

(Australia/Cambodia/Vietnam)

16 Jan

Bankstown Arts Centre

A sonic homecoming, remixing the past and future.

Artist, label head, and musical polymath Maggie Tra brings finesse and flair to the dance floor by embracing the culture of the land she's in as well as the lands her family hailed from. After exploding onto the electronica scene in 2021, Tra has released several albums, featured at SXSW Sydney as an official artist, performed around the world, had her single ‘Resist’ highlighted in the hit Netflix series Heartbreak High and composed for Belvoir St Theatre's The Coconut Children.

For one night only at Sydney Festival, Tra will perform the full journey of her most personal work yet, Srey's Refuge, Home at Last, which delves into the loss of her mother, honouring her life and the sacrifices she made. With stage visuals by Jo Ngo, Tra blends traditional Khmer dance with contemporary movement and ancestral instruments with club-ready electronics, creating a sonic experience that celebrates Cambodian diaspora, resilience and the enduring power of home.
