One of the most well-loved Sydney Festival events returns to Parramatta. It’s the perfect evening for families and friends to pack a hamper, grab a blanket, and settle back in a Sydney summer dusk to enjoy beautiful music.

This free concert is always one of the most anticipated events of the Sydney Festival and 2018 promises to be no exception. Returning to the gorgeous surrounds of Parramatta Park, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will perform a selection of beloved classical compositions.

Parramatta Park is an easy stroll from both the ferry wharf and the train station so if you’re heading in from the city, why not make a leisurely day of it?

Before the main event

Supporting the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Western Sydney’s brightest young classical musicians will take to Parramatta Park’s Crescent stage from 6.30pm for a high-energy, uplifting repertoire of popular classics like you’ve never experienced before! You’ll witness two bold and exciting ensembles presented by Resonance Concerts and Events; one brass and one percussion, featuring talented students ranging from 15 years to emerging professional performers in their 20s.

Led by artistic directors Cameron Gregory and Paul Goodchild, the young musicians will also be mentored by Sydney Symphony Orchestra brass and percussion Fellows as part of their artistic development. Breaking from tradition, the percussion ensemble will feature a less conventional combination of sounds including a DJ and the vocal stylings of renowned Australian beatboxer Chris Gale. The brass ensemble will also perform a range of popular scores from the ballet La Peri and excerpts from the opera Carmen, ahead of a climatic finale.

This special pre-concert event is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.

Parramatta Park will be a pedestrian zone for this event from 2pm on Saturday 20 January. This means no vehicles are permitted to enter the park from 2pm. Drivers can park at nearby parking stations around Parramatta such as the Hunter St car park. For more information about other nearby parking in Parramatta, check the Parramatta City Council website.
