The Ephemeral City demolition takes place at 3:30pm January 26 – come witness the spectacle and then play in the boxes!
Sydney’s new creative playground, the Cutaway at Barangaroo Reserve, will be home to one of the largest community participation events presented in Sydney Festival’s 40-year history, with Olivier Grossetête’s fantastically epic The Ephemeral City.
People of all ages are invited to use boxes and tape to construct a sky-high temporary city before witnessing its exciting demolition on Australia Day.
Children can channel their inspiration from this mammoth artwork into cardboard collective BOXWARS’ free creative workshops – the perfect school holiday activity.
Those seeking an adrenaline rush can get a bird’s eye view from the free Flying Fox, zipping between the cardboard buildings.
As you craft your city, or fly across your cityscape, check out Shaun Gladwell’s newest video work, Skateboarders vs Minimalism, projected across the Cutaway’s western wall. Or for the full audio-visual experience, after your jam-packed day of buliding, stay for Gallery Hour.
Meet Boxy, our very special visitor who's in town for The People's Tower and The Ephemeral City.
