Into The Bloodstream (Australia)
Archie Roach has always sung from life. His songs map a hard journey from enforced foster care to petty crime, alcoholism, homelessness and, ultimately, redemption through music in the company of his soul mate, the late Ruby Hunter.
Recent years have seen Archie suffer a number of hardships, but he’s dug deep to find his inner strength, lifting himself and others up through song. He now turns his tale of perseverance into a gospel-infused experience in the magnificent State Theatre.
Joining Archie are Jack Charles and Radical Son (I Am Eora, Sydney Festival 2012), Emma Donovan (Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Sydney Festival 2012) and Vika and Linda Bull. ILBIJERRI Theatre Company’s Rachael Maza (Foley, Jack Charles V The Crown) and Isaac Drandic (Coranderrk) direct the performance, which also features a 13-piece music ensemble directed by Craig Pilkington (producer of Archie’s new album), and a 10-voice gospel choir led by Lou Bennett (Black Arm Band, Tiddas).
The choir and ensemble act as a Greek chorus, sharing Archie’s load, transforming Into The Bloodstream into a heartfelt journey for us all.
“You have to let go of the pain and get on with life. Forget your troubles for a while and get up and dance. It’s a celebration of life and good medicine straight Into the Bloodstream” Archie Roach
