A Life in Three Acts
Presented by Sydney Festival and Sydney Theatre Company
Written by Bette Bourne and Mark Ravenhill
Performed by Bette Bourne and Mitchell Butel
Director: Mark Ravenhill
UPDATE: On advice from his doctors following a recent minor operation, Mark Ravenhill is unable to travel and will not be performing in A Life in Three Acts. Ravenhill's role will now be played by Australian actor Mitchell Butel.
With honesty, humour and occasional anger, performer Bette Bourne tells Mitchell Butel about his life. Bourne's story moves from a post-war childhood to the Gay Liberation Front, life in a drag commune and on to the creation of the groundbreaking Bloolips company and beyond.
This piece paints a portrait of an amazing individual and celebrates the momentous struggles and achievements of gay liberation. A Life in Three Acts is based on edited transcripts of a series of long, private conversations.
Originally produced by Jeremy Goldstein for London Artists Projects at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh 2009.
Produced by Hetty Shand with Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and presented by arrangement with Arts Projects Australia.
