Brooklyn-based king of indie-pop Sufjan Stevens returns to Sydney to showcase material from his first full-length album in five years, The Age of Adz.

Stevens' latest offering makes extensive use of electronic sounds with banjo and acoustic guitar giving way to drum machines and analogue synthesisers.

Arguably one of the most significant musicians of his generation, Stevens defiantly resists easy labels. Building a musical narrative with lush orchestrations and evocative lyrics, his music swells and soars over a vast terrain, at once intimately detailed and also emotionally and spiritually uplifting.

His songs are full of poetic imagery, metaphors and stories of real people in real places, with an eclectic musical mix of folk, orchestral, bluegrass, acoustic music, electronic sounds and jazz.

For his much-anticipated return to Australian soil, Stevens will mine his extensive catalogue of material to create an unmissable pop-song extravaganza, performed with a large ensemble and augmented by video projections.
