Wharf 1 Theatre

back Back to Feasts
The Wharf is Sydney Theatre Company's home base located in Walsh Bay. Alongside our administrative and creative areas, we have two theatres in which we present our work — Wharf 1 Theatre and Wharf 2 Theatre.

Visitors to The Wharf can also soak in the sweeping views of Sydney Harbour at The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf. The recent renovations to The Wharf have allowed us to maintain the beloved character of the building and enhance the heritage features, while also providing better accessibility, modernised theatres and a more comfortable theatre experience for you, our audiences.

The changes you will see include: Two new public entries, one midway along The Wharf and one at The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf, giving you access to the space from the harbourside apron. Both of these entries have lifts.

Improved foyer spaces, rest rooms and paths of travel. Modernisation of Wharf 1 and Wharf 2 Theatres with flexible seating configurations, and upgrades that deliver more comfort and accessibility.

Getting Here

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The Wharf can be reached by the 324 and 325 bus services. These bus routes stop outside Roslyn Packer Theatre and The Wharf Theatres. Circular Quay railway station, bus and ferry terminus is the closest public transport hub.

The Wharf is a brisk 15 minute walk from both Circular Quay and Wynyard stations. To plan your journey, visit transportnsw.info/trip or phone 131 500. The NSW government strongly recommends the wearing of face masks on all public transport. For the latest information on COVID-19 safety measures when using public transport, head to the Transport NSW website.

PARKING
Limited on-street parking is available outside The Wharf and Roslyn Packer Theatre on Hickson Road. Make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the performance starting time as it can take more than 10 minutes to park, get to the theatre and be seated in time.

ACCESSIBILITY

Wharf 1 Theatre is on Level 2 of The Wharf.

The majority of patrons will enter via Doors 1 and 2 which can be reached most directly via the lift at the end of The Wharf. This provides level access from the exterior apron of The Wharf at Ground Level, right up to the Theatre on Level 2.

We also have a level access point to Wharf 1 Theatre through Door 3 for people seated in A row, which allows patrons to go directly into the theatre. Access to Door 3 is only on request and these requests should be made at the Box Office at the time of booking.

Level access to Level 1 is via any of the three lifts along the exterior of The Wharf. Each of these lifts can be accessed via ground floor, however the lift at the end of The Wharf provides the most direct access.

Staff Assistance
You may wish to have one of our staff assist you, especially if you or a patron in your group has mobility impairments. Should you require mobility assistance of any kind, please advise Box Office when booking your tickets. One of our staff will be organised to assist you.

Assisted listening devices
A narrow cast FM system is available in both Wharf 1 Theatre and Wharf 2 Theatre as well as the Nielson Family Gallery. To use the loop system, please request a headset from our staff. Headsets contain FM receivers and can be used by patrons with or without hearing aids.

Accessible facilities
There are accessible toilets both at Mid-Wharf and at the End of the Wharf. There are also two ambulant toilets within the female toilet blocks at End-Wharf.
