JANUARY: IT’S THE BEST TIME TO BE IN SYDNEY
January is when Sydney’s at its peak: whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town or overseas, January’s the one month there’s nowhere better in the world to be.
It’s not just because the world’s most interesting and inspiring theatre, cabaret, music, comedy and circus performers are in town for Sydney Festival. You’ve also got the warm, sunny days and long balmy nights to lounge around at the Meriton Festival Village in Hyde Park, grabbing a drink or some food in between Spiegeltent shows or free experiences.
From iconic venues like the Sydney Opera House and Carriageworks to Parramatta’s Circus City, Sydney Festival takes over the whole city between 6 and 28 January. But it’s not just about art – there’s plenty more to discover in Sydney over summer.
Things to do in Sydney
Climb the Harbour Bridge or take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Opera House. Experience the stunning beaches of the Eastern Suburbs with the clifftop walk from Bondi to Coogee, or dedicate a day to exploring the coastline of the leafy north shore by walking from Manly to the Spit Bridge.
Delve into the unique cultures of Sydney’s many inner-city villages, from Glebe to Newtown, Surry Hills, Redfern and Paddington. Or jump on a train and explore the even-more diverse outer suburbs, like Parramatta, Blacktown and Campbelltown (all of which are hosting Sydney Festival events).
And if you're here a few days before the Festival begins, you’ll know that Sydney's world famous New Year's Eve fireworks are not to be missed.
Whatever you end up doing in between Sydney Festival performances and installations – swimming, walking, eating, partying or taking it easy in the shade – there’s no better time to be in Sydney than January.
