Out of the Vaults: People, Language, Places
State Library of NSW presentation
Bayala means ‘speak’ in local language. Local language is being reawakened, in a sharing and celebration of the Indigenous heritage of Sydney.
Has 'Sydney' always been called Sydney? Get up-close and personal with rare collection items relating to the history of Sydney and be one of the few to lay eyes on these records rarely seen by the public. Join Melissa Jackson, Ronald Briggs and Marika Duczynski from the Indigenous Engagement Branch of the State Library of NSW as they tell the story of the people, language and place.
Drawing from the rich array of images, manuscripts, realia and maps held in the State Library of NSW collection, Out of the Vaults is an opportunity to share in the history and knowledge of the communities and individuals who live in and around Sydney in the colonial era.
