Go deep into all the Australian theatre at this year’s Sydney FestivalBack to
For the second year, we’ve teamed up with AustralianPlays.org to offer deeper insight into the innovative new Australian theatre being performed at the Festival, including Force Majeure’s primal dance theatre piece You Animal, You, Alice in Wonderland starring Dubs Yunupingu, Tribunal by PYT | Fairfield, Queensland Theatre and Dead Puppet Society’s The Wider Earth, the sharp-witted alt-comedy Wild Bore, and two works from the Torres Strait – Jimi Bani’s My Name is Jimi and Ghenoa Gela’s My Urrwai.
On their site, you can read the scripts, watch a video interview with Sydney Festival Director Wesley Enoch discussing the evolution of Australian theatre and the plays in this year’s program, and more.
“The big ambition for Australian work is to reflect the society that we live in, and even today I don’t think it’s an easy reflection,” Wesley says, in reference to the diversity of gender, ethnicity and geography represented by this year’s Australian plays. “So part of my job is to make sure that the voices of those who are often silenced, or not given a platform, are given a platform”.
