Taraf de Haidouks & Kocani Orkestar - Band Of Gypsies (Inner West)
B Reserve: $60/$55
Band of Gypsies (Romania and Macedonia)
The legendary Romanian Taraf de Haïdouks (Sydney Festival 2004) joins forces with Macedonia's celebrated Koçani Orkestar to bring us Band of Gypsies.
Be ready for a raucous evening of wild new music and exhilarating arrangements of old favourites as the swirling and fiery violins, cimbaloms and accordions of Taraf de Haïdouks battle it out with the mighty, funky brass and percussion of Koçani Orkestar. Feel the energy as the two bands draw on traditional Romanian music, urban Balkan pop, medieval ballads, oriental brass, Turkish influences and even a touch of Bollywood.
An irrepressible, joyous celebration.
Taraf de Haïdouks & Koçani Orkestar also appear at The Concourse Chatswood.
The night will start with Shangaan Electro, featuring Nozinja, Tshetsha Boys, Tiyiselani Vomaseve & Nkata Mawewe, a flamboyant combo of decks, dance and revved up beats direct from Soweto.
Honest Jon's revelatory 2010 compilation, simply entitled Shangaan Electro first alerted to this strain of popular South African dance music. Inimitable performer and studio mastermind behind innumerable street-level hits in his homeland Richard Mthetwa AKA Nozinja AKA 'Dog' , will headline the Sydney Festival dates with the masked Tshetsha Boys plus "the fastest Shangaan dancers around".
