Each year Sydney Festival begins with an acknowledgement of the traditional custodians and elders of the Eora nation and the Gadigal people upon whose land and water much of the Festival takes place. 29 clans make up the traditional owners of the Eora nation, home to one of the oldest surviving cultures in the world today. The boundaries of this mighty nation are the Georges River to the south, the Nepean River to the west and the Hawkesbury River to the north.
