Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys
Australian Exclusive
Supported by Vikki Thorn (The Waifs)
‘Like Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen, she is not of an age, but for all time.’ Paste Magazine
Over her celebrated 30-year career, Emmylou Harris has sold more than 15 million albums world-wide, received a staggering 12 Grammy Awards and been a key figure in several of America’s most important musical movements, including country, bluegrass, folk and Americana.
From her formative collaborations with country-rock visionary Gram Parsons to her early solo work, Harris electrified the country-music world. With a handful of her contemporaries, she played a key role in uniting rock audiences with country-music traditionalists for the first time. As a result, country music earned a new generation of fans.
As an exceptional interpreter and composer, Harris excels at imbuing the songs she performs with raw emotion. Those skills have led to collaborations with a dazzling array of artists from Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Waylon Jennings to Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams and Elvis Costello.
In her first visit to Australia in a decade, Harris will perform with a four-piece band, the Red Dirt Boys, in an evening that will celebrate her many gifts as a lifelong musical explorer.
Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys also perform at Festival First Night.
