John Baldessari in conversation with Caroline Baum
Warhol is so yesterday - be a celebrity for 15 seconds.
John Baldessari 2010
Iconic American conceptual artist John Baldessari is one of the most influential artists of our time, changing the way we understand art, image and text over nearly five decades. Winner of the Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement at the 2009 Venice Biennale, Baldessari joins us in Sydney for the launch of his new work, Your Name in Lights, created for the 23rd Kaldor Public Art Project in Australia, and invites over 100 000 participants to have a glittering moment of fame during the Sydney Festival.
Your Name in Lights reflects the changing cult of celebrity in modern society and recalls Andy Warhol's prediction that ‘in the future everyone will have their 15 minutes of fame’. In this special free event, Baldessari discusses his life, work and this new project with Caroline Baum at the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre.
