Based on Voltaire's satiric novel of 1759, Candide is hilarious, harsh and hedonistic. Blindly following the advice of his tutor Pangloss (Paul McDermott), the relentlessly optimistic Candide (David Hobson) careers through a series of wild adventures and astonishing coincidences, to return home to his beloved Cunegonde (Emma Matthews) enlightened by a new philosophy of life. Also starring Judi Connelli, the Opera Australia Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by Paul Kildea, opera fans and music lovers in general will be in for a treat under the stars.
