Festival Wrap Up - What the Press Said

After three weeks of spectacular music, dance, theatre and visual arts, Sydney Festival has come to a close for 2010. We hope you enjoyed the Festival as much as we did... we can't wait to do it all again next year! Check out what the press had to say about this year's Festival:

According to The Daily Telegraph, "Hume's first offering successfully retained popular elements of past festivals, most notably Festival First Night and the About An Hour series, as well as introducing new directions such as comprehensive talk programs and more classical music." (February 1)

The Australian commended the Festival for embracing a reinterpretation of classic theatre: "What these respectful but reinvented productions of Oedipus, Hamlet, Six Characters... have done is to make old classics alive again, fit to walk the mean streets of the 21st century.” (February 1)

The Sydney Morning Herald summed up the highlights from the past three weeks: “The Festival's triumphs have included the uncompromising German production of Hamlet... The Manganiyar Seduction... the soul singer Al Green, the acclaimed Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear, Red Leap Theatre's The Arrival, Shaun Parker's dance piece Happy as Larry (pictured above), and the newly devised Australian production Smoke & Mirrors.” (January 30)

The Australian Financial Review stated: "This year's Sydney Festival has been one of the best nationwide for many years. Hume has achieved her ambition of retaining the breadth and funkiness that became hallmarks of the Festival." (January 28)

"Festival Director Lindy Hume said she wanted to create an engaging and broad Festival and based on the public feedback, this has been achieved." - The Sunday Telegraph. (January 31)
