Circa 1979: Signal to Noise - Full Program Announced

We have now confirmed the series of talks for the Signal to Noise Sessions, part of our Circa 1979 Festival program. This day of free sessions will feature presentations by industry veterans and artists, as well as discussions between panelists including Tom Ellard (Severed Heads), Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire) and Jaimie Leonarder (Naked City). Want to have your say? There will also Q&A time after each Signal to Noise session.

Here is a rundown of our program:

World Domination - The Australian Post Punk Movement: This talk will explore how Australia’s Post Punk movement challenged the local music industry, seeking to promote artistic expression with little concern for mainstream success.

Postmodern vs. Modern Debate on Remixing and Recycling: This presentation will consider whether the continual revision of material has allowed artists to explore new ideas or desensitised our appreciation for originality.

Experimental Film & Video: The final session will feature a number of presentations showcasing rare footage exploring the groundbreaking ideas and DIY methodology that characterised this period in Australian music history.
