'From the beginning, The Arrival held its audience in a state of rapture and curiosity.' - The Herald (NZ)
What drives so many people to leave behind everything they know to journey alone to a land where the future is unknown?
This question inspired Shaun Tan’s award-winning book The Arrival, now transformed from the page in this wondrous, wordless stage production.
Fleeing an oppressive force and leaving behind his wife and child, a man travels vast oceans in search of a better life. He encounters indecipherable languages, peculiar customs, curious animals and dazzling architecture. Baffled and bewildered, he endeavours to find a home, a job and the security he needs to reunite his family.
Captivating audiences of all ages, The Arrival’s highly physical cast combines music movement, puppetry and shadow play to send your heart and imagination to a land of flying ships, strange birds and travelling balloons. This story of overcoming hardship, and of humanity and hope, is a tribute to migrants and refugees throughout the world.
Suitable for ages 6+
Note: Child for The Arrival – 16 years and under (children 2 and under free when sitting on a knee).
