With the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra Conductor: Paul Kildea
Glitter and be gay!
Opera Australia and Sydney Festival join forces for a very special Mazda Opera in The Domain – Leonard Bernstein’s extravagent comedy, Candide.
Based on Voltaire’s satiric novel of 1759, Candide is hilarious, harsh and hedonistic, and features some of American music theatre’s greatest moments.
Blindly following the advice of his tutor Pangloss (Paul McDermott), the relentlessly optimistic Candide (David Hobson) careers through a series of wild adventures and astonishing coincidences, to return home to his beloved Cunegonde (Emma Matthews) enlightened by a new, more realistic philosophy of life.
This free performance offers Sydney a delicious opportunity to indulge in an evening of musical luxury with a cast of some of Australia’s best-loved singers, including Judi Connelli, the Opera Australia Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by Paul Kildea.
