INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS
Last year crowds of close to 200 000 Sydneysiders, national and international visitors enjoyed the inaugural Festival First Night in our CBD streets, laneways and parks. This year we’re expecting increased numbers, so we have expanded the footprint of the event to cater for the extra foot traffic.
We would welcome your support and co-operation to help us deliver this event:
• Please ensure any deliveries to businesses and households required for the weekend Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 are expedited prior to COB Friday January 9, 2009.
• Be prepared for larger than normal crowds in the CBD.
ENTERTAINMENT
There will be family entertainment from 2pm to 6pm in Hyde Park, with the remaining stages activated from 7pm to 11pm. All stages will be involved in sound checking equipment through the afternoon of Saturday January 10, prior to performances.
ROAD CLOSURES
There will be a series of road closures as part of the event. These are being managed in co-operation with all relevant road and transport agencies. Broadly, the closures will commence from Friday 9 January at 11:30pm, with streets re-opening from 6:00 on Sunday January 11, 2009. For information on road closures, alternate traffic routes and parking restrictions visit www.rta.nsw.gov.au or call 132 701 closer to the event.
HOW WILL THE CITY LOOK?
The city may look a little different on 10 January around the event footprint. There will be road closures and along some streets, such as Hunter Street, there will also be crowd control barriers in place to assist with flow of pedestrian foot traffic.
SUSTAINABLE SYDNEY 2030
Sustainable Sydney 2030 is City of Sydney’s vision for a green, global and connected city. Over 12 months, the City consulted with thousands of Sydneysiders to develop the vision and people told us they want a city that is sustainable environmentally, socially and culturally. The City of Sydney is working toward achieving that vision. Green with modest environmental impact, green with more trees, parks and gardens. Global in economic orientation, in links and knowledge exchange. Connected to communities and physically by walking, cycling and public transport. Click here to watch a three-dimensional fly through that shows you what the City of Sydney might look like in 2030.
