Mr. Scruff, Katalyst, Thief Feat: Kathrin Deboer (Belleruche)
Mr. Scruff’s eclectic sound blends influences as diverse as soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, Latin, African, ska, disco, house, funk and breaks with a hefty dose of cheek and good humour. He is renowned the world over for his marathon DJ sets, quirky visual projections of his hand-drawn animations and his penchant for a good cup of tea. With a handful of critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with the likes of Quantic, Danny Breaks, Alice Russell and Roots Manuva, and countless tours and club events Mr. Scruff has cemented a now legendary DJ status.
One of this country’s finest producers, Katalyst creates music that traverses soul, hip hop, funk and rock. Internationally renowned, he has remixed and produced projects for artists including McKay, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), Ugly Duckling, Beautiful Girls, Dynamo Productions, and Vassy and remixed and produced tracks with Portishead's Geoff Barrow. Katalyst, a stalwart of the festival circuit, now brings his signature sound of powerful horns, strings and beats to the Bar.
Thief is one of Australia’s premier beats DJs. His sound is a dynamic blend of real hip hop, soul, roots and dubwise break beats, featuring tough hip hop drums, analogue bass lines, sampling and lavish strings that weave between the calm and ferocious. On the live front, Thief plays the turntables – an old skool DJ with real skills using vinyl, CDJ and MPC. Tonight, his wall of sound will be complemented by the tender soulful vocals of Belleruche’s Kathrin Deboer.
By arrangement with Niche Productions.
